This subpart applies to:
- Iron and steel foundries that are Area Sources* of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs).
Definition of Iron and Steel Foundries:
- A facility or portion of a facility that melts scrap, ingot, and/or other forms of iron and/or steel and pours the resulting molten metal into molds to produce final or near final shape products for introduction into commerce.
- Research and development facilities, operations that only produce non-commercial castings, and operations associated with nonferrous metal production are not included in this definition.
*Area Sources of HAPs emit or have the potential to emit:
- < 10 tons per year of any single HAP, or
- < 25 tons per year of combined HAPs.
- Major Sources emit more than Area Sources.
