The individual in this position will be responsible for reviewing plans and specifications for livestock waste control facilities (LWCFs).  This position also reviews applicable portions of nutrient management plans (NMPs) for engineering aspects.

 

Hourly Rate:

*$24.339 Environmental Engineer I

*$25.186 Environmental Engineer II

*Hiring classification dependent upon selected applicant's qualifications and experience

• Reviews permit applications to ensure compliance to applicable engineering rules and regulations.
• Provides technical assistance and information to the public on NMPs, Nebraska Environmental Protection Act, Livestock Waste Management Act, Title 130, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program, and other applicable rules and regulations.
• Draft Routine correspondence and technical memos to stakeholders.
• Work directly with livestock producers and technical advisors to ensure proper documentation of required engineering requirements and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Review engineering aspects of relevant animal feeding operation NMPs for compliance with current regulations.
• Provides technical support for the Title 198 coordinator for engineering reviews.

 

Environmental Engineer I: Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering.

Environmental Engineer II:  Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering plus two years’ experience in environmental related engineering work; or Master's degree in civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering plus one year experience in environmental related engineering work.  Registration as a professional engineer may substitute for two years of the experience requirement.

• Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent transportation. 
• Ability to travel overnight

• Ability to walk long distances

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of environmental engineering related to water supply systems, water pollution, air pollution, solid waste disposal and/or related environmental engineering services.
 

Skill in: communicating with individuals prioritizing workloads; using analytical judgment to make decisions;
 

Ability to: apply regulations to environmental engineering activities; communicate orally and in writing with a diverse population; make decisions to deal with environmental engineering problems within established guidelines.
