8:00 AM to 5:00 PM -- Monday thru Friday

Under general supervision, evaluates air pollution control systems, reviews permit applications and drafts air quality permits for facilities discharging pollutants into the air to ensure compliance under the Clean Air Act. 

Environmental Engineer I

  • Under supervision, review pre-construction or operating permit applications, determine compliance with applicable regulations, prepare air quality permit documents with appropriate requirements and conditions to assure compliance with the Nebraska Air Quality Regulations
  • Work w/applicants to obtain appropriate quality and quantity of information needed to prepare permit recommendations.
  • Review draft permits written by others for accuracy, consistency and content as necessary. Provide guidance to permit writers new to the program.
  • Confer with and advise the regulated community on technical requirements in the area of construction and operating permits. Give presentations and provide testimony at public hearings in areas of responsibility.           
  • Assist in regulatory planning and development of the permit program.

Environmental Engineer II

Environmental Engineer I:

Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering.

Environmental Engineer II: 

Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering plus two years’ experience in environmental related engineering work; or Master's degree in civil, mechanical, chemical or agricultural engineering plus one year experience in environmental related engineering work.  Registration as a professional engineer may substitute for two years of the experience requirement.

Other Requirements: 

Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent transportation; Occasional overnight travel 5 – 10%; Willing and able to lift 30 pounds; Willing and able to climb 10 ft ladders; willing and able to climb, bend and stoop; Willing and able to work in outdoor temperature extremes; Excellent written communication; Clear and excellent verbal communication skills; Able to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Knowledge of:  Principles and practices of air quality management, and state, local and federal air pollution control rules and regulations.    

Skills:  Excellent written and oral communication, analytical and judgment skills, computer skills.

Ability to:  Read and write technical reports; interpret complex environmental regulations, and prepare concise and enforceable air quality permits; Relate well to people having various technical and non-technical backgrounds
