Under general supervision, maintains and operates ambient air monitors around the state, conduct facility inspections and provide assistance for Tier II and emission inventory submittals. Other primary duties include data entry into federal databases, preparing reports and documenting inspection observations including evaluating violations.

  • Maintain ambient air quality monitors, including electrical and mechanical diagnostic evaluation and repair. Perform QA activities on monitors and data entry into federal database.
  • Conduct inspections and offer assistance to air emissions sources and determine compliance with State and Federal regulations, permit conditions and emission inventory submittals.
  • Provide assistance to sources preparing annual Tier II reporting.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field consistent with the duties of the position, including soil science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, limnology, biology, statistics, technical writing, resource planning and computer programming field AND one year of full-time professional experience in a related field, consistent with the duties of the position.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent transportation; Ability to travel across the state and occasionally outside the state, including overnight stays; Ability to work in outdoor temperature extremes; Ability to climb, bend, stoop; Ability to walk on uneven terrains and steep slopes to accomplish tasks, Ability to lift 30 pounds; Ability to climb a 10 foot ladder, regular and reliable attendance.

Knowledge of: the principles of biological, physical and chemical sciences; statistical and analytical methods; word processing, spreadsheet and database management computer software

Skill in: low voltage electrical component diagnostics and repair. Mechanical components diagnostics and repair. Communicating with individuals and groups with varying technical backgrounds to collect and relay information. Using analytical judgment to make decisions

Ability to: learn electrical and mechanical functions of ambient monitors. Learn and apply local, State and federal environmental laws, regulations and standards; learn, apply and uphold agency policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private officials and with the general public; organize, analyze and interpret data to draw conclusions and prepare reports
