Two Hearings Focus on Crow Butte Resources Proposals

The Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy conducted two public hearings regarding issues relating to Crow Butte Resources. The first hearing was held Aug. 23, relating to a proposed aquifer exemption. The second hearing was held Sept. 23, regarding a proposed Class I injection well. I. Proposal to Exempt a Portion of Chadron Aquifer
The Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy held a public hearing regarding a proposal to exempt a portion of the Chadron Aquifer north of Crawford. This portion of the aquifer is associated with a proposed expansion area for the Crow Butte Resources (CBR) uranium mining facility. The proposed exemption would prevent that designated area of the aquifer from being used as a drinking water source in the future.

II. September 23 Hearing on Proposed Class I Injection Well
The Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy also held a hearing regarding the proposal to issue permit NE0210825 to Crow Butte Resources, Inc. (CBR) for the construction and operation of a Class 1 UIC non-hazardous waste injection well
