NDEE’s Wastewater Program administers the construction permit program for new and modified wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems built in the state. Construction permits for municipal, industrial, and commercial wastewater works are issued after department engineers review and approve the construction plans and specifications for the project.
These reviews assure that wastewater facilities are correctly designed to protect the public health and the environment from the effects of improperly treated wastewater.
In addition, the program maintains state regulations for the operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities, the abandonment of wastewater structures, and sets design standards for wastewater facilities.
