Site Summary:
The Freed's Corner site, located approximately five miles north of Central City, was first reported to the Department on February 14, 1991 as a result of a tank pull. The owner of the property who pulled the tanks never used the tanks, and the site was placed on the orphan tank list. The site was activated in January of 2001, and the Tier 1 and Tier 2 process was initiated. |

Table 1. Final Tier 2 Sampling Results:
A complete round of sampling will be done after this site is posted to take an additional look at the contamination levels. The levels posted below in Table 1 are the results from the addendum to the Tier 2 sampled November of 2002. Also posted (split cells) are the highest historical levels observed since the site was activated. Please note that the levels of contamination have been significantly higher in several wells (such as MWs-1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 10) as noted by the June 14, 2002 sampling event. RBCA SSTLs will be established on these wells (see Table 2) irrespective of the contamination levels indicated during the pending sampling event. Free product has also been observed in MW-1 and MW-7 in the past. If you are considering a bid on this site make sure you have a copy of the RBCA Tier 2 report. I'll notify you when the pre-bid, final round of sampling results are posted.

Site Specifications:
1. The legal survey map does not have new monitor the wells drilled November of 2002. Please see the Addendum to the RBCA Tier 2 evaluation dated 1/30/2003 for the location of the new monitor wells.
2. The groundwater levels have risen about 4' since the last November sampling event.
3. Overexcavation is approved at this site.
4. The owner would like a call before you visit the site.
5. A lot of the work will be done on Department of Roads (DOR) right-of-way. DEQ received a permit to drill monitor wells from DOR but we did not talk about overexcavation at that time. The owner knows the DOR representative.

Site Questions and Answers:
Comments: Over the course of the investigation phase, groundwater levels have been observed to fluctuate substantially with a drop during the summer months. It is thought the reason for this is an aquifer that is only 20 to 30 feet thick and four irrigation wells are located close-by. It appears that the aquifer is limited, and drawdown of a pumping well should be significant. Because of these aquifer traits, caution is warranted during remediation design as any system using pump and treat might dewater the domestic well that the Department is protecting. Because of the current drought in the State, the potential for dewatering the aquifer is enhanced. This drop in water levels is also affecting the contamination levels of the plume. Summer and winter Benzene plume maps are shown on the web site to illustrate the point. These are also the reasons the Department will perform one additional round of sampling as stated above. Please see the complete files for further documentation and to formulate your own interpretation of the hydrogeologic characteristics of this area.
