Site Summary:

Three Underground Storage Tanks were originally registered at the site. One tank on the north side of the station was removed in 1986 and soil samples did not indicate elevated BETX concentrations in the samples. In 1993 the two remaining tanks on the south side of the station were removed and the soil samples did indicate elevated TRPH concentrations. The site was added to the orphan tank list in June of 2000. In January of 2001 the site was activated under the ERCS State lead program and the investigation process was initiated. The site has a private unregistered water well on the property for which there are no construction records available. The owner has stated that the well is used for irrigation purposes only as the station is connected to a rural water supply. Ground water is shallow at about 8 -12 feet. The soils are predominately sand.

Site Specifications:

1. DEQ is requesting that only the area in the rectangular box be remediated for this PFP Contract.

2. This site is not a good candidate for overexcavation.

3. At the conclusion of the contract, or after system installation, the remaining part of the front parking lot that is not paved, must be paved with concrete. This area will not include Department of Roads right-of-way. Visit the site, and see the legal survey for actual size calculations. The approximate size will be 5,000 square feet.

4. This is an active gas station/convenience store with the storage tanks in a vault and fiberglass lines.

5. Site visits can be made at any time; however contact the property owner for notification.

6. The property owner is reluctant to sign a property access agreement; however, he understands the site has to be cleaned up, and he gave me his word of non-interference with the contractor. This is not unusal for property owners in Nebraska.

7. Remediation equipment placement has been discussed with the property owner; the area south and west of the facility is available.

8. The garden (see map) can be removed if necessary.
