Site Summary:

The Heckman Property site in Hadar was added to the orphan priority list in 2001, after reports of petroleum contaminated drinking water were filed with the Department, and no clear source was known. In 2004 a geoprobe was used to evaluate the entire area for contamination and to search for the source(s) of the petroleum contamination. Several USTs were found in the area between and near the two Quonset buildings on the Heckman property. These tanks were removed in 2005. In 2006, NDEQ had the State Contractor (Terracon) perform a Tier 1 & Tier 2 which confirmed petroleum present in the groundwater. Hadar has no municipal drinking water system, so all of the homes in the town have a private water well.

A set of deeper observation wells are present at the site and the PFP Contractor will be responsible for the maintenance and eventual abandonment of these wells. The deeper wells will not be used for incremental or final payment; however, NDEQ may be sampling these wells periodically for information purposes.
