May 2022 Monthly Metrics

NDEE produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Accomplishments:
  • NDEE and partners began weekly sampling at 53 public lakes for E. coli bacteria and for harmful algal blooms to protect public health.  There were no beach closures in May.
  • In accordance with Legislative Bill 1014e, NDEE developed guidance on the use of Section 51 ARPA federal funds for reverse osmosis water treatment systems to remove nitrate. Two additional guidance documents were completed that address converting certain rural water systems to groundwater sources, and to improve State Fair Ground wastewater and drainage systems. Staff also assisted other agencies by providing input on project eligibility.
  • NDEE received Dept. of Energy approval for the updated Nebraska Weatherization Assistance Program’s Field Guide and Installation Standards as well as for the Policies and Procedures Manual used for the technical analysis, installation and inspections of funded weatherization projects.  These documents will be used for the next five years.

Miscellaneous:
  • Grants for the Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive, Litter Reduction and Recycling, and Scrap Tire programs can be submitted between July 13 and August 24, 2022 (4:00 p.m. CST). The grant term will be January 1 through December 31, 2023. An estimated $3 million will be available for Litter grants and $4.5 million for Waste grants.
