The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to reissue with change the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)/Nebraska Pretreatment Program (NPP) permit for Eaton Corporation, 4200 U.S. E. Hwy 30, Kearney, NE (NPDES/NPP NE0114405, SIC 3714) a manufacturer of automotive engine components, valves and gears through shearing, forging, heat-treating, machining, plating and packing. Process wastewater discharges through Outfall 001, Outfall 002, and Outfall 003 to the North Channel of the Platte River, segment MP2-10000 in the Middle Platte River Basin via the City of Kearney POTW. Process wastewater discharges through Outfall 004 to an unlined evaporation pond. Single-pass, non-contact cooling water discharges through Outfall 006 to two unlined ponds. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.
