NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) proposes to reissue with change the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., d/b/a Weeping Water Mine, 2651 State Highway 50, Weeping Water, NE (NPDES# NE0000388; SIC 1422), This facility sells quarried, broken, and crushed limestone. Wastewater consisting of sediment basin discharge, limestone wash water, storm water, and mine/pit dewatering discharges through Outfalls 004, 005, and 006 to an undesignated tributary of Weeping Water Creek, Segment NE1-13000 in the Nemaha River Basin. Outfalls 002 and 003 have been added to the permit and may be utilized in the future. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review at NDEE’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
