The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to reissue with change the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to Evonik Corporation, 650 Industrial Park Drive, Blair, NE (NPDES # NE0132594; SIC 2869). The facility manufactures Biolys® which contains the amino acid (L-lysine) using a multi-step fermentation process. The product is used as a nutritional additive in animal feed. The manufacture discharges cooling water from the cooling blowdown through Outfall 001 of to the Missouri River, segment MT1-10000 of the Missouri Tributaries River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.
