The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to modify the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System/Nebraska Pretreatment Program (NPDES/NPP) permit for Eaton Corporation, 4200 East U.S. Hwy 30, Kearney, NE (NPDES/NPP# NE0114405; SIC 3714) a manufacturer of valves and gears for automotive and heavy equipment industries. Outfall 001 is a discharge of process wastewater from the chrome destruct area, 002 consists of wastewater discharges from the Romicon system, and 003 is from solution treat furnaces and forge press cooling that discharge to the North Channel of the Platte River, segment MP2-10000 in the Middle Platte River Basin via the City of Kearney POTW. Outfall 004 is a ground water remediation discharge, which is stored in a water tower; excess water is land applied. The modification adds Outfall 006 which is the discharge of non-contact cooling water to on-site retention ponds. The permit modification will not change the expiration date of the permit and will continue to restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. To request copies of the draft permit and other information, call 402-471-3557.
