NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE
The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) proposes to reissue with change the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to M. G. Waldbaum dba Michael Foods, Inc. 301 Carlson Parkway, Minnetonka, MN, dba Big Red Farms, 58535 NE HWY 35, Wakefield, NE (NPDES# NE0132331; SIC 2015). Wastewater is generated from the washing of eggs prior to breaking to produce liquid egg for further processing and from sanitation and clean-up activities. Process wastewater is discharged to a lagoon treatment system. Treated effluent is land applied through Outfall 001 to agricultural land in the Subbasin EL2 in the Elkhorn River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review at NDEE’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
