NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) proposes to reissue, with change, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station, PO Box 550, Fort Calhoun, NE (NPDES# NE0000418; SIC 1629). This facility is a decommissioned nuclear fuel electric generating facility. Wastewater discharged from the facility includes intake pumps, turbine building sumps, and storm water associated with demolition. Process and non-process wastewater discharge through Outfall 001. Sanitary wastewater from a controlled discharge lagoon system discharges through Outfall 007. Both outfalls discharge to the Missouri River, Segment MT1-10000 in the Missouri Tributaries River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review and copying at NDEE’s Lincoln Office, 245 Fallbrook Boulevard, Lincoln, Nebraska 68521 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (CT), weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
