The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to issue a new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to Prairieland Dairy, LLC, 13000 Pella Rd., Firth, NE (NPDES # NE0139467, SIC 0241). The dairy farm and composting facility operates as a combined animal feeding operation (CAFO) and receives animal product and food waste for composting and land application. Wastewater and runoff from CAFO operations and dewatering are collected in a lagoon. Process wastewater and solids are land applied in the Nemaha River Basin, subbasin NE2. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
