HAZARDOUS WASTE CLOSURE PLAN
NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (NDEQ)

NDEQ HAS RECEIVED AND REVIEWED HORNADY MANUFACTURING COMPANY CLOSURE PLAN FOR THE HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT SITE LOCATED AT 3635 WEST OLD POTASH HIGHWAY, GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA. THE FACILITY NDEQ/EPA IDENTIFICATION NUMBER IS NED007257603.

This closure plan is to clean up residue at the site from a parking area and sample soils for residual hazardous materials generated after waste gunpowder combusted at the site. The waste gunpowder had been stored in a shipping container without a permit for a period exceeding the 180 day storage period. The Hornady Manufacturing Company closure plan for the hazardous waste area is intended to meet all required performance standards as required by Title 128 – Nebraska Hazardous Waste Regulations. When final closure is completed, Hornady Manufacturing Company and an independent professional engineer registered in the State of Nebraska will certify the closure activities.

The closure plan is available for public review from January 22, 2018 to March 8, 2018 at: NDEQ Office, 1200 N Street, Suite 400, Lincoln, NE and the Edith Abbott Memorial Library, 211 North Washington Street, Grand Island, NE.

Within 45 days after the initial publication of this notice, persons may submit comments and/or request or petition to NDEQ for a public hearing concerning the approval of the Closure Plan. Comments received during the 45-day public notice period ending March 8, 2018 will be given consideration in the final decision concerning Closure Plan approval. A request or petition for a public hearing must state the nature of the issues to be raised and submit arguments and factual grounds supporting such a position. If a public hearing is granted by the director, the hearing will be public noticed for at least 30 days prior to its occurrence.
