NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Pursuant to NDEQ’s Title 118 - Ground Water Quality Standards and Use Classification, public notification and opportunity for comment is hereby given of the following:

1. On or about July 15, 2014 NDEQ received report documenting a historical release of ammonia to soils and groundwater in Grand Island, Nebraska. Agricultural services Inc. is responsible for the release. The legal description of the property is: the Northeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, Section 20, Township 11 North, Range 9 West, Hall County.

2. Follow-up investigation determined the effect of the release and remedial actions. NDEQ determined that the ground water contamination event is defined as remedial action class one (RAC-1).

3. The release resulted in the contamination of the underlying ground water. The source of the release is known and extent of contamination has been investigated. Based on the current site conditions and use, the NDEQ has determined that no further remedial action is necessary due to a lack of threat to human health and safety.

Information regarding this release is contained in the NDEQ ground water file (GW) and the release assessment file (RA) # 07114-BR-1545 under facility IIS# 65257.

Persons may comment upon or object to the proposed action or may request a public hearing by writing to Marty Link, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, P.O. Box 98922, Lincoln, Nebraska 68509-8922, prior to August 16, 2018. A request for public hearing shall state the nature of the issues proposed to be raised at a hearing. All comments shall be considered prior to making a decision regarding a public hearing. If the Department of Environmental Quality receives substantive comments regarding this proposed permit issuance, a public hearing may be scheduled.
