NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to issue a new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the City of Hastings Aquifer Storage and Restoration (ASR) Water Storage Facility, 1228 North Denver Avenue, Hastings, NE (NPDES# NE0139343; SIC 4941). The facility is a component of the potable water system and discharges wastewater through land application. Water is treated by Reverse Osmosis (RO) to remove nitrates and uranium before water is injected back into the aquifer. Uranium will be removed by ion exchange as needed. The wastewater generated by this process will be land applied to site(s) in the Big Blue River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. To request copies of the draft permit and other information, call 402-471-3557.
