NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to reissue with change the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the M.G. Waldbaum Company, 105 North Main St., Wakefield, NE (NPDES# NE0113735; SIC 2015). The company processes raw egg into numerous egg products. Filter backwash from the water purifications system is discharged through Outfall 001. Process wastewater is discharged from a mechanical system and a diffuser through Outfall 003. Lagoon cells are available to provide storage and additional treatment of process wastewater if needed. The wastewater from the lagoons would be returned to the mechanical treatment system for final treatment and discharge. Both Outfall 001 and Outfall 003 discharge to Logan Creek, Segment EL2-20000 in the Elkhorn River Basin. Outfall 004 have been removed and land application requirements and reporting in an annual report replace the current requirements. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays.
