NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes to issue a new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for King Steel, 4608 South 25th Street, Norfolk, NE (NPDES# NE0139564; SIC 3398, 3399). This facility produces hot rolled and cold finished carbon, alloy, stainless steel bars, quench and tempered steel bar, hot rolled wire rod, cold drawn wire, wire products, and saw blanks. Wastewater from process and noncontact cooling water discharges through Outfall 001 to a complete retention lagoon in Segment EL4-10000 in the Elkhorn River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
