NOTICE OF INTENT TO CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING FOR PERMIT #NE0139459
Griess Truck Wash
Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality

PUBLIC NOTICE was given in accordance with Title 119 Rules and Regulations Pertaining to the Issuance of Permits under the National Pollutant Discharge elimination System that the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) received an application from Matt Griess, Griess Truck Wash, 1530 Madison Ave., Aurora, NE to modify their National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System/Nebraska Pretreatment Program (NPDES/NPP) permit (NPDES/NPP# NE0139459, SIC 7542) to operate a truck washing facility which discharges wastewater through Outfall 001 to Lincoln Creek, segment BB4-20900 in the Big Blue River Basin via the City of Aurora WWTF. The facility also discharges wastewater and solids from a storage pond through Outfall 002 via land application to sites in the region. The permit modification would allow washing of trucks that might contain corn oil/syrup, liquid cattle feed, hog entrails, beef tallow, salt, gluten, yeast, and other food products. The publication date for this notice was August 1, 2018.

This public hearing is scheduled to address public comment regarding environmental and public health concerns related to the operation of this truck wash.

PUBLIC HEARING. The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has received a request for public hearing and has determined that the request is valid. The public hearing will be held on November 28, 2018 at the Alice M. Farr Library, 1603 L Street, Aurora, Nebraska, in their meeting room starting at 6:00 p.m. The public is invited to formally testify at the hearing on any issue that might be of concern related to the permit modification for the truck wash.

After the public hearing, a responsiveness summary will be prepared addressing the applicable concerns and mailed to interested citizens. At this point, the NDEQ Director will make a final decision. The applicant and interested parties will be notified of the decision. A petition for a contested case may be filed within thirty (30) days of the Director’s decision in accordance with the provisions of Title 115 of the Nebraska Administrative Code.
