NOTICE OF INTENT TO CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING FOR PERMIT #NE0054950
City of Gering Municipal Solid Waste Landfill

PUBLIC NOTICE was given in accordance with Title 132 - Integrated Solid Waste Management Regulations, Chapter 2, §011, that the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) received an application from City of Gering Municipal Landfill, P.O. Box 687, Gering, NE to renew their permit to operate a municipal solid waste landfill. After review of the permit application, a preliminary determination was made to recommend renewal of the permit. The publication date for this notice was April 25, 2018.
PUBLIC HEARING. The Nebraska Department of Environmental quality has received a request for a public hearing and has determined that the request is valid. The public hearing will be held on July 11, 2018 at the City Building, 1025 P Street, Gering, NE in the Council Chambers starting at 7:30 P.M. The public is invited to formally testify at the hearing on any issue that might be of concern related to the permit renewal for the municipal solid waste landfill.
A public information session will be held at the same location from 4:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The public information session is an open forum and the public is invited to come and visit with the Nebraska Department of Environmental quality staff about concerns with the proposed disposal area.
After the public hearing, a responsiveness summary will be prepared addressing the applicable concerns and mailed to interested citizens. At this point, the NDEQ Director will make a final decision. The applicant and interested parties will be notified of the decision. A petition for a contested case may be filed within thirty (30) days of the Director’s decision in accordance with the provisions of Title 115 of the Nebraska Administrative Code.

Copies of the draft permit, legal notice and administrative record are available at the Gering Public Library, 1055 P Street, Gering, NE; at the NDEQ Scottsbluff Field Office, 505 A Broadway, Ste. 200, Scottsbluff, NE; and at the Lincoln headquarters of the NDEQ, 1200 N Street, Suite 400, The Atrium, Lincoln, NE between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
