North-Central Nebraska



The North-Central region, covers nearly 20,000 square miles of wind-deposited sand dunes, the largest sand dune formation in the U.S. Below the sandy surface lie hundreds of feet of gravel and coarse sand, forming one of the largest aquifers in North America.

Much of the region is sparsely populated. Cities in this region include O’Neill (pop. 3733), Valentine (2820), Ainsworth (1862), Gordon (1756), and Burwell (1130).
